Garlic for Postpartum Wellness

In Ayurveda, it is thought that when a new mom is cared for in a specific way for the first 42 days of her postpartum, it sets the tone for her hormonal wellbeing for the next 42 years.

Sattvic promoting foods (easy to digest) include rice, warm vegetable soup and ghee (and sometimes milk products depending on the individual). Roasted garlic is also great for postpartum care because it supports healthy digestion, the nervous system, and lactation all while keeping infections at bay. It can be roasted with ghee until browned and added to meals within the first 10 days postpartum. Avoid raw or dried garlic as it is too pungent and can promote restless energy and gas.
