The Babylonians named the days of the week after the five planetary bodies known to them and after the Sun and the Moon, naming them according to the creative principles they noticed occurring with those days. The Romans later adopted this practice and established the seven-day week cycle in the Roman calendar in 321 and designated Sunday and Monday as the first two days of the week. Each name of the week is derived from Anglo-Saxon names for gods in Teutonic mythology. (The Teutons are best known for their participation in the Cimbrian War with the Roman Republic in the late 2nd century BC.)
I have to say, I'm not super tuned in to this cycle. The only day of the week that I really get a feel for is Tuesday, that fiery Aries energy. When I worked in the corporate world, Tuesday was my favorite day - so very productive, I could get so much done. I always attributed it to needing Monday to get reacquainted with the work and coming up with a good game plan for the week, but maybe there was more to it than that.
I went searching other websites to see if I could match chakras to a day of the week, but I came across a lot of conflicting information and decided I was trying too hard to fit things that clearly didn't fit. Most of the information above comes from a cute little book called "The Day with Yoga: Inspirational Words to Guide Daily Life" by Elisabeth Haich. She gives you an explanation of each day and several quotes for that day of the week to meditate on. So, ideally, you would choose one quote from the selection and meditate on it throughout the day to get a true feel for that day's energy. I love that idea anyway.
How about you? Have you noticed any particular traits that correspond with certain days?
